July 6th - Coral Bay to Bullara via Exmouth.

After checking out the Coral Bay Bakery (Bob) we drove the couple of hours to Exmouth. The town was full of tourists and touristy shops but it did have an IGA so we were able to do some food shopping etc.
We drove down to the Town Beach which is on the Exmouth Gulf side of the peninsula to eat our lunch. The view was great but the wind was very strong and so it wasn’t as pleasant as we had expected.

We then decided to drive out to the North West Cape. There is a naval communication facility here and there has been one here in various forms since World War 2. The RAAF also have some sort of base here too.
You can just see the aerials if you look hard.
We walked down onto the beach at the end of the Cape and saw the wreck of the SS Mildura. It was a cattle ship that was wrecked in a cyclone in 1907. Apparently all souls were saved but I don’t know if that also means the cattle.

The black things in the water are the wreck.

The surf beach on the Indian Ocean side.

The Harold Holt sign as this is the name of the NavalBase.
After doing a bit more shopping we decided that we had seen Exmouth and we headed up the road towards Bullara Station. On the way we stopped to see a World War 2 memorial to sailors. One group was a bunch of Z Force sailors who sailed from the Exmouth area to Singapore and mined Japanese ships. Some returned safely and of course others perished.
Iron floats and pontoons used in the area during the war.

We arrived back at Bullara in time for Happy Hour around the campfire and freshly cooked Damper. We really enjoyed the evening as everyone is much more friendly than in a regular caravan park.
Our second Bullara camp.
