July 1st - Karijini NP Day 3 A.

Well the temperature only went down to 5 degrees which was a bit more pleasant than the previous night.
We had breakfast and coffee with Tim and Dorothy and then it was time to say goodbye as they had to start their long journey back to Adelaide. We are very thankful that they agreed to join us on this trip especially through the outback section just in case there are any issues with vehicles etc. They would not have done this journey on their own either so it worked well for us all. The man in the next camp took this photo of us all.


We hope they have a safe journey home.
While we have been in the camp Bob started making a mosaic pattern on the ground and we have all contributed to it at some time.



We then set off on the walk down to the Circular Pool in the bottom of the Gorge here near the campground. We had to climb down the side of the Gorge on some steps mad with rocks until we reached Gorge floor.

Then we had to turn into mountain goats and negotiate large rocks, steppingstones and small streams until we reached the end of the Gorge and the Circular Pool. You can see by the photos it was well worth the effort.

Driving westward today we saw a great variety of country and also a great variation in road surfaces.   We arrived at the Gary Junction where the Gary Junction Road and the Gary Highway meet. The Gary Highway goes south and meets up with the Gun Barrel Highway. We have visited both ends of this road now but have never driven on it. There is a book in a steel case for travellers to sign. We all signed the book. The Gary Highway!!!!! This was the plaque near the book. After leaving the Gary Junction it was only a short run, 65klms, into Kunawarritji 4 Klms after we crossed the CSR. We topped up with fuel and if we thought Kiwirrkurra fuel was expensive  take a look at the next photo. We decided to camp at Well 33 which is the closest well to Kunawarritji. The tank was overflowing as it was when we were here 10 years ago. So we did the washing and then relaxed. The flies were full on.

June 23rd - Desert Queen Baths to Running Waters.

We were reluctant to leave camp this morning as the area was so beautiful and very peaceful as there were no other campers there. On the way out we took a side track to see a cave with interesting rock formations. We then drove on to a site on our map named Christmas Pool. We met some other people and chatted about campsites etc. Christmas Pool is an Aboriginal Sacred Site and was dry but you could see that when full of water it would be quite beautiful. Explorers had camped here in 1870 something on Christmas Day, hence the name. They had carved their names in the rock. One name was Trotman. We had seen his name on the CSR. There was a bit of sandy country to drive through but we had no problems. Christmas Pool. We continued on driving north west and once we arrived near the Telfer Mine the road turned into a fabulous dirt highway. June 12th - 13th Barn Hill Station Stay.

This morning we finally were able to change our Broome Caravan Park booking to arrive a day earlier than we had originally booked.  So we decided to head off to Barn Hill so we could fit in 2 days there and just have a short run into Broome on Sunday. We arrived at Barn Hill in time for lunch which was just as well as there were only a few sites left. We were able to fit into a fabulous site overlooking the sea because we are only a small vehicle.  Later in the afternoon we took a walk along the beach. Why would you want to be anywhere else? We got chatting with our neighbours who Bob helped to dig out when they got bogged reversing their caravan into their site. Liz and Nev from Perth. We had happy hour with them and plan to do the same tomorrow night. The sunset was beautiful again. June 13. This was our view as we ate breakfast this morning.
