June 18 - The Gary Junction Road - Day 2
We continued to travel west along the Gary Junction stopping at Sandy Blight Junction to see one of Len Beadell’s plaque. Len Beadell constructed many roads out here and this one around 1960.

We continued on to the WA border.
We passed this stand of desert oaks. The short slim trees are the juvenile trees and are this shape so that the rain falls at the base of the trunk to help them grow. When mature they start to spread out their branches. This is survival in sandy country.
Once over the border the road improved greatly as it was freshly graded. We met the grader drivers down the road and stopped for a chat as they were having smoko. One guy lived in Port Macquarie and was looking forward to going home soon.
